Aghnides and J. Avenol on T. Aghnides' refusal to be in charge of the League of Nations Secretariat with limited powers, J. Avenol did not inform T. Aghnides on instructions received from Vichy to leave, J. Avenol assured T. Aghnides that S. Jacklin, South Africa, Office of the League of Nations Secretary General, Treasury, fully agreed with his plans, untruth; Denmark withdrawal from the League of Nations; Permanent Court of Justice staff treated at Geneva as ordinary diplomats: Switzerland gave hospitality to the staff but did not welcome the Court as an Institution.

S. Lester requested S. Jacklin's approval, (South Africa, Office of the League of Nations Secretary General, Treasury), on a sort of letter-telegram he wrote (no correspondent name and address mentioned) on the possibility for S. Jacklin to organize office for collecting contributions; S. Lester's note to D. Kelly, British Minister in Berne, summarizing J. Avenol's plans and position, covering June-July period: organization of a centre for the League of Nations Secretariat if the staff were driven out by invasion, J. Avenol's anti-British sentiments and policy of excluding the British from the Secretariat, J. Avenol's wish to misuse the League of Nations for the new European purposes and not its original purposes, J. Avenol's decisions concerning S. Lester's, A. Loveday's and R.I.B. Skylstad's mission to USA and T. Aghnides' new post (in charge of the Secretariat, he would take over from J. Avenol without any Secretary-General status), J. Avenol's proposal to form a kind of "Directoire", reductions of League of Nations staff, J. Avenol's speculations on Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland decisions as regards the League of Nations, J. Avenol's interviews with B.M. Viple (France), ILO official (to get in touch with P. Jacklin (South Africa), Office of the League of Nations Secretary General, Treasury, as he first thought; Supervisory Committee to look after the League of Nations finances: J. Avenol had no intention of participating in this Committee, Supervisory Committee meeting should take place in Princeton (USA) with C.J. Hambro (Norway), Holma (Finnish Minister), Boisanger, Henri Victor Marie Carton de Wiart (Belgium).

S. Lester informed by Carlos Garcia Palacios (Chile), League of Nations Information Section, that the autocar in which the A. Loveday party had left for Lisbon had had an accident, not too serious (three persons gravely injured, including one of A. Loveday's sons) but people were able to go on their trip on the following day; the remains of the ILO staff, about 30 officials including E.J. (Ned) Phelan (Ireland), left for America at J.G. Winant's request, Director of the ILO; S. Jacklin on the League of Nations budgetary difficulties: most of the Member States could or would pay nothing, on the difficulty for the Supervisory Committee to meet: C.J. Hambro (Norway) wanted the meeting in America or Lisbon, J. Avenol refused to move from Geneva and said the meeting could not be held without him.

Jacklin (South Africa), Office of the League of Nations Secretary General, Treasury, on J. Avenol's proposal to give R.M.F. Costa du Rels of discourtesy, added a sentence saying S. Lester had been Secretary-General par interim since the 26 of July, what made S. Lester furious since it was not correct; S. Jacklin's fear (South Africa), Office of the League of Nations Secretary General, Treasury, on J. Avenol's possible attempts to get the League of Nations funds transferred; J. Avenol asked S. Jacklin to cancel a debt he owed the Pension Fund for arrears; R.M.F. Charron (France), League of Nations Finance and Economic Research Section, on funds and his future.
