The United Nations General Assembly, currently holding its 13th session, this morning commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with statements by the Assembly President, and the present Chairman - as well as former chairmen - of the UN Commission on Human Rights.
This photograph was taken as Mr. Guillaume Georges-Picot (at speaker's rostrum), of France, read a mesage from René Cassin, a former Chairman of the Human Rights Commission. Seated at left on the podium are Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt (U.S.), the first Commission Chairman; and Mr. R.S.S. Gunewardene (Ceylon), the present Chairman. At the presidential rostrum are (left to right): Un Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold; Dr. Charles Malik (Lebanon), Assembly President; and Mr. Andrew W. Cordier, Executive-Assistant to the Secretary-General.
