A recommendation that the Second UN scientific conference on the peaceful uses of atomic energy shall open on or about 1 september 1958 and shall last two weeks, has been made by the seven-member committee appointed to advise Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold on atomic affairs. A decision on the site of the conference will be taken later. The Committee made its recommendation at a closed meeting at UN Headquarters last Friday 28 September.

The second UN International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy is now being held in the Palais des Nations, Geneva (September 1-13). Participating in the Conference are 67 countries and 9 UN Specialized Agencies which are represented by some 5000 scientists and observers exchanging their views and information on the peaceful uses of thermonuclear power and atomic energy.
