Argentina today became the twenty-fourth party to ratify or accede to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Dicrimination, which was opened for signature at New York on 7 March 1966. Under the Convention, adopted by the General Assembly on 21 December 1965 (Resolution 2106 (XX)), States which become parties ""condemn racial discrimination and undertake to pursue, by all means appropriate and without delay, a policy of eliminating racial discrimination in all its forms and promoting understanding among races." The Convention provides for establishment of machinery to oversee the implementation of its provisions.

Czechoslovakia today became a signatory to both International Convenants on tHuman Rights, bringing the total number of signatories of both instruments to 32. The two instruments are the Covenant on Civil and POlitical Rights and the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The instruments were adopted by the General Assembly on 16 December 1966 in resolution 2200 (XXI). When they enter into force, they will require the States Parties to implement the rights and freedoms proclaimed in the UNiversal Declaration of Human Rights. The Covenants will enter into force after 35 countries have deposited instruments of ratification or accession with the Secretary-General.

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination will come into force early next year as a consequence of its ratification or accession by 27 States, following ratification of the Convention today by Poland.
Poland deposited its instrument of ratification today with the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, becoming the twenty-seventh State to have ratified or acceded the Convention.

The Netherlands has ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Dicrimination, which came into force on 4 January 1969. The instrument was received today by the United nations Office of Legal Affairs.
Under the Convention, States parties condemn "racial discrimination and undertake to pursue, by all appropriate means and without delay, a policy of eliminating racial discrimination in all its forms and promoting understanding among races."

Haiti today signed the International Convention of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which entered into force on 4 January 1969. Under the Convention, adopted by the General Assembly on 21 december 1965, States parties condemn racial discrimination and "undertake to pursue, by all appropriate means and without delay, a policy of eliminating racial discrimination in all its forms and promoting understanding among races." A Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has been established under the Convention to oversee the implementation of its provisions.
