Lester was slighted by the captain of the German cruiser "Leipzig", who was ordered by the War Minister in Berlin not to pay a courtesy visit to the Danzig High Commissioner, the reason was an incident occurring during a reception given in 1935 by S. Lester to the officers of the battleship "Admiral Scheer": President A. Greiser left abruptly the reception because of the presence of H. Rauschning, his non-Nazi predecessor.
