Machol Jr. (author)The Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human rights of the Population of the Occupied Territories, which concluded hearings in Cairo on 27 April, began hearings in Geneva yesterday, 30 April. Appearing before it were Claude Pilloud and F. P. Payot of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Committee, on 1 May, heard the testimony of Gideon Weigert, a witness who came from Israel.
Mr. Gideon Weigert, who said he lives in Jerusalem and is an Israeli national and journalist, is seen making a statement before the Special Committee.

The Conference focused on a wide range of human rights issues. With the adoption of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, the Conference called on Governments to promote and guarantee all human rights and made recommendations to strengthen the methods and mechanisms used by the United Nations in the field of human rights. The Conference was the first of its kind in 25 years and included 171 Members States and 1,000 non-governmental organizations.
