The United Nations General Assembly, currently holding its 13th session, this morning commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with statements by the Assembly President, and the present Chairman - as well as former chairmen - of the UN Commission on Human Rights.
This photograph was taken as Mr. R.S.S. Gunewardene (at speaker's rostrum), of Ceylon, the present Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, addressed the Assembly. Seated at left are Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, the first Chairman of the Commission; and Mr. Guillaume Georges-Picot (France). At the presidential rostrum are (left to right): UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold; Dr. Charles Malik (Lebanon), Assembly President; and Mr. Andrew W. Cordier, Executive-Assistant to the Secretary-General.
