The United Nations Commission on Human Rights, at an extended meeting on 10 March, adopted a resolution on human rights in Chile and five resolutions and one decision relating to agenda items 5, 11, 13 and 14.

As the General Assembly marked the 45th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, prizes were award to individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the protection of human rights of people around the world.

The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Treatment of Prisoners who were victims of apartheid in South Africa heard a witness this afternoon at its final meeting at United Nations headquarters before departing for London, where they are scheduled to hear additional witnesses form 12 to 19 June, and then proceed to Dar Es Salaam (21-27 June).
