The UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities initiates or undertakes world-wide studies on specific aspects of human rights. Now meeting at UN headquarters, the 12 experts are studying at their eleventh annual session ways of preventing discrimination in religious and political rights and in employment.
Here, Mr. Arcot Krishnaswami (India) and Mr. Richard Hiscocks (United Kingdom), members of the Sub-Commission, discuss a document while awaiting the opening of one of the meetings.

The UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, which convened yesterday for its 12th session, this afternoon continued discussion of the report on discrimination in religious rights and practices by Dr. Arcot Krishnaswani, of India.
Here, two of the participants in the current session, Professor Enrique Rodriguez Fabreguat (Uruguay); and Mrs. Zoya Vasilevna Mironova (USSR), are seen exchanging views shortly before the meeting got under way.

Opening its 14th session, the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities this morning reelected Jose D. Ingles (Philippines) as Chairman and Vieno Voitto Saario (Finland) as Rapporteur. Election of the Vice-Chairman was postponed. In addition, the Sub-Commission adopted a 10-item agenda.

The United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities today unanimously approved as a whole a set of 15 general principles on freedom and nondiscrimination in the field of political rights. It also adopted a resolution which, among other things, seeks to have governments use the principles for their guidance and continue their efforts "to eliminate all discrimination in the matter of political rights".
Seen here is Mr. Jose D. Ingles (Philippines), Special Rapporteur on the subject: "discrimination in respect of the right of everyone to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country". Mr. Ingles is also the Chairman of the present session of the Sub-Commission on Discrimination.
