The Commission on Human Rights began a debate on the report of its Sub-Commission on the Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities.

The Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities of the UN Commission on Human Rigts today opened its twentieth session at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. The Sub-Commission elected Pierre Juvigny (France), Chairman of the current session and Mr. N. Pai (India) and Mrs. Phoebe Asiyo (Kenya) Vice-Chairman and Rapporteur respectively. The Sub-Commission also adopted a 13-point agenda. Experts from eighteen countries, participating in their personal capacities are attending the present session, which is expected to last for two weeks. Also present are the representatives and observers of a number of UN specialized agencies, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations.
