Administrative history
Otfried Nippold was a lawyer and teacher whose focus was international law. His main interest laid in the concept of arbitration courts and he thus became involved in the Peace Movement. Although of German origin, he grew up in Switzerland and returned there at the outbreak of the First World War. He was appointed Professor of Law at the University of Bern and later became President of the Supreme Court of the Saar Region (then administrated by the League of Nations).

After O. Nippold's death, the collection was given to the International Peace Bureau.
Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
The Nippold Collection was deposited in 1961 at the UNOG Library, together with the IPB archives and library, upon a decision of the Swiss Federal Tribunal.

Scope and content
Newspapers, press clippings, pamphlets, magazines, correspondence and handwritten notes, which were collected by O. Nippold. The collection provides a good overview of the pacifist movement and the different opinions and ideas of peace at the outbreak and during the First World War.
