A recommendation that the Second UN scientific conference on the peaceful uses of atomic energy shall open on or about 1 september 1958 and shall last two weeks, has been made by the seven-member committee appointed to advise Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold on atomic affairs. A decision on the site of the conference will be taken later. The Committee made its recommendation at a closed meeting at UN Headquarters last Friday 28 september.
This picture, taken just before the opening of the meeting, shows some of the members of the Committee at the conference table.
